Old age sucks or an example of my observation of the world 😉

The main ideas from the chapter are:

Aging is inevitable but frustrating – Getting older „sucks“ but it’s the only path to longevity.
Social norms change – Activities that were accepted as a child (making poop, burping) are inappropriate as an adult.
Physical appearance – What was admired in childhood (genitals, first hairs) is a source of criticism or ignorance in adulthood.
Useless skills – Childhood games like „paci-paci“ are never used in adulthood.
Social rules – As a child he did not understand why he was not allowed to ask certain questions (about smell, people’s weight) and these rules are still confusing in adulthood.
Overall, it’s a satirical look at how with age comes not only responsibility, but also awkwardness and the loss of childhood carefree-ness.

_____

Old sucks, but it’s the only known way to live to a very old age.
Still, it’s unfair – just a few comparisons as proof.
When I was a little baby, I was applauded for even the slightest poop that I „managed“ = I can still do it today though, do you think anyone will applaud me?
After eating, everyone waited for me to burp and if I couldn’t, they would gently pat me on the back = the relief when I finally burped! And today? After eating, not only does no one wait for me to burp, but suddenly the activity is somehow inappropriate, not to mention the patting on the buttocks!
And what about the fact that when I felt like crying, I would immediately have my breast to my mouth – no use talking… today I could cry and nothing…
The adult world is similarly cruel when it comes to physical appearance = during the changing of the diapers, the whole family gathered and all the women, including distant aunts, admired and praised how nice my pee pee was – just try showing it to them today!!!
Similarly, my first hair on my bare skull drew endless cheers and today? I still have plenty of hair, but for some unfathomable reason, they suddenly started pointing out the slowly appearing bald spots, yikes…
And what was I taught back then and what relevance did it have to my life today? For example, what I remember very well and what I was really very good at was the so-called patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man or Ring-a-Round the Rosie = you probably won’t believe this, but do you know that I have not used it once in my life so far?! Except for a variation of that Ring-a-Round, when I was a bit of a mess, but again – nobody was happy, oh dear…
I guess they forgot to tell me a lot of things too, because for example I didn’t learn that the number one is shown by the raised middle finger = it’s embarrassing, but I thought that’s what my thumb was for! Or maybe two is done with index and pinky fingers or I just don’t understand…
And yet, I asked questions – all the time and about everything. Why does the man smell so bad and why is the lady so fat? I still don’t really know, I just know I’m not allowed to ask.
I want to go back and wanna and wanna and wanna and wanna!
